Consistency in Your Oral Hygiene Routine Is Important for Maintaining a Healthy Mouth
May 31, 2017
The American Dental Association provides a series of recommendations and guidelines to help people maintain good oral health throughout their lives. This starts with a consistent oral hygiene routine that involves brushing your teeth twice each day and flossing each evening.
When brushing your teeth, you should use with a soft bristled toothbrush and abrasive toothpaste. Added fluoride also helps keep your tooth enamel strong. Ideally, you want to brush each tooth individually in a small circular motion, rather than simply sawing the brush head back and forth at random.
It’s wise to floss your teeth each evening after you are done eating for the day. Be sure to floss along the gum line, as well as behind each of your back molars. This will help to remove residual food material and plaque from between your teeth as well as the gum line.
It’s also important to attend your bi-annual dental checkup and cleaning. This will remove any signs of hardened tartar from your teeth, while also monitoring the health of your teeth, gums, and other important oral tissues.
